playtime | shanghai family photographer

Recently my girls found this huge leaf of a palm tree that had fallen into the pool in our compound.
Of course the wanted to take it home – and I didn’t have any objections as long as I also got to play with it a little… ;)
So here are some fun portraits and self-portraits from our ‚playtime‘!

I have photographed this gorgeous girl and her family a number of times over the last few years – and she’s always such a joy to work with (so are her parents!)! Full of energy and ideas, she also made sure I got my exercise today, as she chased me to the top of all the pagodas in the Chinese Garden…! ;)

an early start | child photographer shanghai

I spent a lovely morning in Singapore’s Botanic Gardens with these guys! Despite the very early start – just after sunrise – the kids were full of energy, ideas (‚Can I pose in front of these flowers?‘) and laughter, and we had a really fun session! Rising early is definitely worth it!

moments that matter august | child photography shanghai

After a long pause (due mainly to moving house, and then traveling pretty much all summer), I’m happy to finally join in the blog circle ‚Moments that matter‘ again this month.

While in Germany a few weeks back, I did a belated ‚birthday shoot‘ with Maxi. She loves to wear her gum boots and splash around in water, so we went down to the river for some „fishing“. There was only a stone attached to the string, but Maxi totally expected to catch some fish and was a bit disappointed when she had no such luck. Ever since watching the movie ‚Ballerina‘ on the flight over to Europe, Maxi is obsessed with ballet and insisted on also bringing what she calls her ‚ballerina dress‘ along to the river – so of course we had to do a few shots with the dress too!

Make sure you follow the circle to see some amazing photography – next up is the talented Rachel of MilkyArt.

Today I have some special news to share: below image of my daughter Nele has won a Merit Award in the International Image Competition of the NAPCP (National Association of Professional Child Photographers) in the category ‚Child‘! I’m thrilled and honoured to have my image elected by a blue-ribbon panel of expert judges, among thousands of entries – and my daughter Nele is very proud, too! :)

I photographed Nele in the Chinese Garden on Chinese New Year – I’d say that was a pretty good start into this lunar year! She was very patient with me and twirled, and twirled, and twirled… until I had the shot that I wanted. She’s not always willing to humour me („Mom, not AGAIN!!“), but I think this recognition might just improve my chances of getting her cooperation again in the future. Fingers crossed!

watch them grow | family photography shanghai

Something I love about my job is that I get to watch so many adorable children grow and develop. With my families who have yearly photo sessions with me, and not having seen the kids in between sessions, I’m always so amazed by the changes! Our kids really grow up way too fast, sigh… Well, at least we can hold on to photographs and capture their personalities along with their cute little faces during each stage of their childhood. And how fun is it to sometimes recreate images from an earlier session, to really show off how much they have grown! (Find last year’s similar image here, and more of that last session here!)

moments that matter – february | lifestyle photography singapore

Another month full of moments that matter – this month, our moments were mostly connected to outfits and outings (with a few random moments thrown in for good measure). It was Chinese New Year, so Nele and Maxi were wearing their pretty Cheongsams, which they both loved and didn’t want to take off (I want one too! I really need to find a pretty adult version!). We went to explore the Chinese Garden here in Singapore, and the girls loved the lake and the turtles, the pagodas and bridges. Another outing we all enjoyed was a trip to the Singapore Zoo, where Maxi loved seeing everything from high up on daddy’s shoulders. As for the outfits, Maxi is in the middle of her ‚princess and ballerina-phase‘, and she loves dressing up. Luckily, Nele declared that „Frozen is for babies!“, so that Maxi can wear all the old costumes without the two of them starting to fight…

Follow the blog circle to see more moments that matter – next up is Yana Klein!

botanic gardens | family photography singapore

here’s another sneak peek of last weekend’s family photography session, early in the morning in the botanic gardens. i’m sure this little girl would convince you that photo shoots should always include a huge balloon! check out her previous balloon photo sessions here, and her first birthday session here. i wonder how many more years the fascination lasts? ;)

the number-balloons are a great idea for birthday photo sessions and look great when you look at them side-by-side later on. another idea is to increase the actual number of (normal) balloons from year to year, one balloon for a one-year-old, two on the second birthday and so on.
